The sun was setting. I stood in the supermarket with bags in my hands, tired, staring. My eye fell on the copy machine that stood between the customer service desk and the flower display. The young man at the customer service desk was counting lottery tickets before restocking them. We made eye contact. From the three meters that we were standing apart I shouted, pointing at the machine ‘Has that always been there?’ He looked at it and laughed. ‘Yes, of course!’
