NOW
I’m dusting off my bookshelves. The radio is on softly, the songs mix in with the sounds of the waves. I realize I don’t have a lot of things to entertain myself with. It is hard to remember what I did in my free time back in the city. In a way I spent a lot of time trying to get out of there, applying for houses, internships and jobs elsewhere. I watched tv in the evenings, went to the gym, or met up with friends.
I should be happier here at the island, but I mostly feel tired and run down.
Whenever I complain about anything to the islanders they act vaguely concerned and clueless. Everybody is in charge, therefore nobody is in charge. Individuals are hiding behind the collective, pretending to be powerless.
